Planning the future of global supply chains, with AI.

I lead global supply chain planning transformations. Over 20+ years, first with leading systems integrators and since 2020 leading customer-side IT, I've delivered advanced planning systems like o9 and SAP IBP across North America, South America, Europe and APAC, covering S&OP, demand and supply planning. Here I share my own thoughts on planning and AI, our responsibility with AI, and the supply chain AI news that matters.

About

Transformation, not just implementation

I've spent more than 20 years delivering large-scale supply chain solutions and digital transformation for Fortune 500 companies. My focus is building best-of-breed planning ecosystems on o9 Solutions and SAP IBP that change how a business plans, not just which system it runs on.

From 2006 to 2020 I worked in SI consulting with Accenture, Fujitsu Consulting, Infosys and Cognizant. Since 2020 I've led the customer-side IT team for supply chain planning, so I know these programs from both sides of the table.

At The Mosaic Company I led a ~$12M global planning transformation, moving 150+ users off SAP IBP and fragmented Excel processes onto a unified o9 platform. Cutover went through with zero business disruption, and the legacy platform was fully decommissioned in 2024.

As primary architect for the platform's data strategy, I designed the integration layer connecting o9 to SAP S/4HANA and Salesforce via Azure. That built closed-loop planning cycles, so demand, supply and execution work as one connected core instead of separate tools.

Today I own the planning platform end to end. I drive user adoption and platform enhancements, lead operations support and the scrum team, and shape the future roadmap for how AI is used across the supply chain. We've also just kicked off an o9 Financial Integration project.

Along the way I've managed delivery partners including EY, Capgemini, HCL, Accenture and o9 Solutions, directing their consultants toward business outcomes and mentoring the people on my own team to grow with every program.

I'm especially interested in how AI and machine learning are reshaping supply chain planning, and in where S&OP and integrated business planning go next.

The next 2–3 years will set AI's trajectory

What gets built, allowed or constrained in AI right now will shape the next decade. Lessons from nuclear energy and dynamite on guardrails before deployment.

Why root cause analysis decides supply planning adoption

Supply planning transformations rarely fail on configuration. They struggle when planners don't trust the output. What 90–120 days of RCA workshops taught us.

The “Apple Effect” and the integrated SCM ecosystem

Once you're in with an iPhone, adding an iPad feels native. SAP is moving the same way with S/4HANA at the center, and that changes how we weigh best-of-breed planning.

The “App Store” analogy and the integration feasibility gap

Planning tool demos focus on features. The plumbing underneath, which decides total cost of ownership, is rarely explored. A look at CI-DS, RTI and o9 Integration 3.0.

The strategic path for supply chain planning: choosing a direction for 2030

With the 2027/2030 SAP ECC deadlines looming, the window for wait-and-see is closing. A decision matrix for choosing between ecosystem stability and specialized agility.

The math doesn't matter if the trust isn't there

Adoption dies in the black box. How forecast tournaments turn AI forecasting into a glass box that demand planners can understand and trust.

Our responsibility with AI

Guardrails first, so AI earns trust

AI's upside is massive: faster cures, more resilient supply chains, higher productivity. Getting there takes deliberate engineering, solid architecture and clear guardrails before deployment, not after.

I've seen the same truth up close in supply chain planning. Planners adopt AI when they can see why it recommends what it does. Guardrails aren't a brake on AI; they're what turn a black box into a trusted partner.

  • Explainable by designA forecast or plan should show why it changed, so people can act on it with confidence.
  • Humans in the loopAI proposes, planners decide. Clear ownership of decisions keeps accountability where it belongs.
  • Data you can trustNo model can compensate for fragmented master data. Responsible AI starts with data quality.
